Two from Orissa chosen for training in England

Football in Orissa benefited today with two boys from the state getting selected to undergo training in United Kingdom and participate in the Arsenal International Soccer Festival in London. Chandrasekhar Behera of Raghunath Jew Vidyapitha and Syed Viju Oasim of Sambalpur Football Academy were chosen along with 14 other boys from across the country from the second edition of the Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars Football tournaments held for children aged 10 to 15 years. The tournament that commenced on November 26 last year, took place in phases across 10 cities — Calicut, Bangalore, Goa, Mumbai, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhuwaneshwar and Shillong with each city having its own elimination rounds, culminating in national finals. Paul Shipwright and Kurt Maginley from Arsenal Football Club imparted training at the camp. Altogether 32 boys, who were identified from the tournament, joined a week-long training camp at CC&FC ground in Kolkata earlier this month. The camp was supervised by Arsenal coaches Paul Shipwright and Kurt Maginley. The camp provided a training according to the customized Arsenal development programme called ‘The Arsenal Way’. Out of the 32, 16 were selected to attend a one-week training camp at Arsenal and also join the Arsenal International Soccer Festival to be held in London in August.
